Downtown Aberdeen Walk Of Fame - Leadership Grays Harbor graduate LGH Steering Committee Voted Best Club DJ Runner Up Radio Personality (behind one of his mentors Rhys Davis) Voted 1 of 20 Under 40 Years Old to have a Major Positive Impact on GH (This was in 1995 before he was in radio) Put on the first local rap/hip-hop shows in the Twin Counties Commercial cook:Johnny was trained as a commercial cook by Al and Sach Jenkins with the help of their son Steve, learning American and Japanese cuisine, ALL from scratch. His teashers motto was "make everything home made" from the soups, to baked items, to everything. Al was a lifelong Navy cook who met his wife while in the service. When JM helped open the Captain's Corner restaurant with Marshall Henninger(another Al/Sach protege,) some of his things gained local fame like "Johnny's Big Ass Biscuits" and his legendary chicken noodle soup. When asked about it, Johnny states: "People would ask to buy it by the gallon to take home while other restaurant owners offered money for the recipe. When I declined, they would ask how much I would charge to come to their place to make it for them." JM also worked at the head cook at the SeaStar in Grayland for Larry & Greg. When asked about his time there: "We had 3 dishwashers, 2 salad bar preps & 2 to 3 backup cooks behind me with a line that went around the entire building some days. We would get slammed! Larry & Greg were probably the smartest business savvy people on the beach" Golden Cove - Grayland SeaStar - Grayland Captain's Corner - Aberdeen Forestry Johnny was also the last member of the Washington Conservation Corp which was a program from the State Of Washington Parks Department. He worked in state parks for a few years almost pursuing a career in forestry. "I just loved working outdoors with trees everywhere and meeting new people who would come vacation..." While at the park, he would manage and oversee the youth programs in addition to the routine duties of park maintenance. It was there, he became an apprentice for Master Carpenter Ed Galez to fix structures around the parks. "Ed went so fast I couldn't keep up with him...I was 20 and he was 70!!..." When Johnny moved on, Ed gave him his tools which Johnny sees as a "great honor". MachinistJM also had his hand in working at a machine shop building the legendary Furford Cranberry picker/pruner. From lathes, end-mills, grinders, he can build one from the ground up. That led him to work the cranberry bogs, harvesting the fruit by "dragging & shaking" and prepping the giant crates for pickup by Ocean Spray. Under Construction....
