An unknown suspect opened fire in downtown Sacramento, Calif. on Sunday morning, killing six people and injuring 10. The suspect remains at large.

The shooting took place near 10th and K streets near the city’s Capitol Park at around 2 a.m. PST where a large crowd was gathered for unknown reasons. The area is packed with restaurants and bars.

A video circulating social media showing a brawl among a big crowd followed by gunshots is purported to be a fight that took place just before the shooting broke out.

At 5:02 a.m. PST, Sacramento Police had confirmed “at least 15 shooting victims, including 6 who are deceased.”

Another video shared on TikTok and Twitter from @joshuajered showed people running down the streets from the sound of gunshots, claiming to be from the shooting area. This video could not yet be verified.

Another video taken from a bystander in a nearby building showed what appeared to be the early aftermath of the shooting with police arriving and placing caution tape around the scene, where multiple bodies were seen. The video could not yet be verified.

Sacramento Police Department Chief Kathy Lester at a Sunday morning news conference called the incident “a really tragic situation.” Lester added that it’s not yet clear how many shooting suspects were involved.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg tweeted, “Words can’t express my shock & sadness this morning. The numbers of dead and wounded are difficult to comprehend. We await more information about exactly what transpired in this tragic incident.”

The scene remains closed with a heavy police presence as the investigation continues.
