Over a dozen celebrities and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti were spotted without masks at Super Bowl LVI on Sunday despite Los Angeles county’s mask mandate that tens of thousands of attendees abided by. By not wearing masks, the celebrities were also defying SoFi Stadium’s rules that require attendees to wear masks when not eating or drinking.

One Twitter user posted a photo of Mr. Garcetti speaking to a group at the Super Bowl. No one in the photo was wearing a mask, except for two individuals whose masks were pulled down under their chins.

Twitter user Fed Up tweeted a collage of photos showing over a dozen celebrities and their friends going maskless at the big game, including Charlize Theron, Ellen Degeneres, Mark Wahlberg, NBA star Lebron James, Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, Drake, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.

The popular Twitter account Libs of Tik Tok shared a photo showing more celebrities who aren’t wearing masks while regular workers at the event are forced to wear them.

“Celebrities don’t have to wear masks. Only ‘the help’ do,” the account tweeted.

Another Twitter user shared more maskless celebrity photos from the Super Bowl. He quipped, “Masks only work if you are not a celebrity.”

Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona called out Los Angeles’ mandate that requires children to wear masks in school despite the fact that COVID-19 presents virtually zero risk to kids.

“If you demand our kids wear masks, but go silent when celebrities go maskless, then YOU are the problem,” Biggs tweeted.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also highlighted the hypocrisy on display at the game.

“Americans who watched the #SuperBowl saw rich celebrities having a grand time with hardly a mask in sight. But under Democrats’ policies, first graders who watched that big maskless party last night had to wake up this morning and cover their own faces,” McConnell said.

Florida candidate for Congress Lavern Spicer tweeted, “What SCIENCE explains why KIDS have to wear masks but CELEBRITIES don’t?”

“NBC showing so many celebrities without masks on at the #SuperBowl you’d almost forget there is a mask mandate for everyone else,” tweeted Josh Jordan.

Bridget Phetasy also joined the chorus of people angry over Los Angeles’ rule that children must wear masks while celebrities surrounded by tens of thousands of strangers get a free pass.

“Have fun explaining to your kids today why all the celebrities at the Super Bowl don’t need masks and they do,” she tweeted.
