On Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said his state has sent eight buses carrying illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C. in an effort to protect small Texas communities who have been overrun with illegal immigrants due to the Biden administration’s lax border policies.
“So, I can tell you there actually will be an eighth bus along the way later on today. We will continue the busing process every single day for the reason that I think you mentioned earlier on, and that is the Biden administration has been dumping off these migrants by the hundreds in local communities that do not have the ability to take care of or deal with these migrants that are being dropped off,” Abbott told Fox News host Martha MacCallum.
In an effort to help struggling Texas communities, Abbott said his administration decided to “bus [illegal immigrants] to Washington, D.C.”
“If Biden will not come to the border, we’re sending the border to Biden and his administration so that they can begin to grapple with the challenges that we’re dealing with,” he said, adding, “But also, we will be looking for other locations like Delaware, Biden’s home state. … The people in Delaware are going to see what the people in Texas are having to grapple with.”
Abbott slammed President Joe Biden, arguing that border security has always been a federal issue “until the Biden administration.”
“The Biden administration has abandoned its responsibility to secure the border,” Abbott continued. “Even more dangerous, the Biden administration has abandoned its responsibility for national security because, Martha, as you know, there have been almost two dozen people during the term of the Biden administration who are known as being on the Terrorist Watch List who have been apprehended coming across the United States border.”
Abbott was referring to recent U.S. Customs and Border Patrol data that revealed Border Patrol arrested at least 23 people who are on the terror watchlist attempting to make their way across the US-Mexico border last year.
Earlier this month, Abbott ordered the Texas National Guard and local law enforcement partners to conduct a series of exercises in an effort to deter thousands of illegal immigrants from attempting to cross the border. The drills are taking place in several border locations, including Eagle Pass and Del Rio. The exercises include riot control and forming perimeters along the Rio Grande River.
The exercises began after Biden’s administration announced it is expecting a surge of 500,000 illegal immigrants every month following the end of the pandemic-era border policy known as Title 42, which allows migrants to be turned away at the border before they can claim asylum.
“Biden is making our country less secure,” Abbott said.
