Video shows flames shooting from three homes under construction in Kansas

VIDEO: Officials with the Overland Park Fire Department are investigating what caused a massive blaze that destroyed three homes under construction in Johnson County, Kansas, early Monday. Firefighters were sent to a house fire call in the 11100 block of West 172nd Terrace around 4:20 a.m. on Monday. When crews arrived, firefighters saw large flames shooting from a two-story home under construction in that area.

By that time, those flames had already spread to two other nearby homes — one on either side of the original home — also under construction. The scene was so large, additional Overland Park units as well as Olathe, Kansas, firefighters were called to help.

Officials said the homes involved were still in the framing phase of construction, meaning there were no fire protection measures like smoke detectors or sprinklers in place.
